New Year Letter
2012 A Happy New Year to all our Readers. Christmas seems to have come and gone in a flash ! I sincerely hope that your Christmas was as enjoyable as mine. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said for our Information Officer, John Kidd, who met with an accident just before Christmas and broke both his legs, one quite severely. He will be out of action for some time, so I ask you to be patient with us if you have any delay with any information requests. We finished last year well with the success of the Christmas Party. Sandon School prove to be an ideal venue for the Party, with the Soft Play Room being particularly successful. When we had our first Committee meeting of the Year, on Tuesday, 10th January, we were able to decide some dates for our events and activities in 2012. We are considering an Easter Event on Wednesday, April 11th 2012. The details are yet to be finalised. We are hoping to have Tim Kitson, of Sound Lincs, to help us make music, along with card making, biscuit decorating and games. The Picnic in the Paddock will be on Sunday, 16th of September, with the added treat of Pony Rides. This year our Christmas Party is scheduled for Saturday, December 8th 2012, hopefully at the same venue - Sandon School. With regard to our talks, we were a little disappointed that more people didn't attend the Benefit's Talk. However it worked to the advantage of the people who did attend, as Paul Hewlett was able to give them individual attention. He has been rebooked for Tuesday, October 16th 2012, so if you don't think you qualify for benefits, please attend. We were impressed by his knowledge and caring attitude. He has managed to provide substantial sums of money for Lincolnshire carers. March and May seemed to be suitable months for our other talks. We welcome any suggestions for topics and speakers. Updates will appear on this page as events and speakers are finalised. We are looking forward to seeing all of you at our events and at the coffee mornings, which are proving popular. Everyone is so helpful and supportive of one another, it is a pleasure to attend. You are assured of a warm welcome. Recently we had an interesting request from a lady, Michelle Fox, who hopes to start a Day Centre in Grantham for those adults with Autism and Asperger's. She would like to identify any clients of 15 years to any age who would benefit from an assessment and a planned program of activities to meet their individual needs. These activities might include independent living, swimming, horse riding, and so much more. If you know of anyone who might be interested ( or their parents ), Could you please let me ( 01476 855070 ) or Michelle ( 07588533241 ) know. Read Michelle's letter on this link :- More information will be posted on the website as this interesting venture develops. Good Wishes to you all Christine Barrs Chair G.A.I.N. Autism Friendly Film Screenings Some of you may remember an autism-friendly film screening described on this page, it took place at the beginning of August and appears to have been successful, as the Odeon group are now running autism friendly film screenings every month. Lincoln and Leicester Odeon cinema's are taking part in this scheme. The screenings have a number of benefits: Lights are left on low and the volume is turned down. There are no trailers before the film. People can move around the cinema and make noise as they feel comfortable. People can bring their own food and drink. For more information and bookings, visit:- Link to Odeon Cinema or phone 0871 2244 007 Again, for more info and to view trailers Visit:- Dimensions Website The film for March is "John Carter" to be shown on Sunday March 11th at 11.30am.
